Maintenance & Warranty

The Shed Shop offers a 10-year warranty on all of our garden sheds, guaranteed. This warranty is full-service, which means you can be reassured that if anything needs fixing, replacing or repairing, we will come and fix it for you, not just send you the parts.

Whilst your shed is durable and tough, and relatively low maintenance, it does require some work to keep it in good condition for decades of trouble-free use.

Please note to ensure that your shed remains in good working order and that there is no argument about the validity of your 10-year warranty we recommend the following:

Washing

Similar to your house washing your shed once a year is good practice.

Sliding Door Wheels (Pre-Painted Steel Sheds only).

Squirt a little oil, CRC or WD40 on door wheels a couple of times a year.

Sliding Door Track

The bottom track is a guide only, however if debris build up or stone chips get in, they can cause the door to bind up. These need to be removed.

Debris on Roof or in Gutter

Keep the roof and gutters clear of debris, particularly leaves as they will rot down and cause water to ‘perch’ on the roof surface or block gutters causing water to ‘back-feed’ inside your shed. Depending on circumstances, we recommend that you clear the roof and gutters at least twice a year. To get debris out of the gutter we suggest you poke a rod, or tube through. Your garden hose can work well for this, simply remove all the fittings and with the water turned off push the blunt hose end through.

Do not Bury

The shed cladding is not made to be permanently wet or underground, so do not allow the shed to get buried by dirt or excessive vegetation.

Trim Adjacent Trees

As well as helping reduce debris building up on the roof trimming trees can reduce damage. Thick vegetation consistently rubbing on the cladding can cause the protective surface to be worn off, resulting in your shed rusting.

Corrosive Materials

Some raw materials like fertiliser, cement, lime and acids are very corrosive. It’s important that these are properly contained when in your shed, if these get on the shed, they must be washed or cleaned off as soon as possible.

Damage to Pre-Painted Steel

In most instances damage to the shed cladding or protective coatings won’t affect the durability of the shed. For instance, we cut and put holes in the cladding when we build your shed. However, too much damage can mean that the protective coatings/treatment can’t cope. In these circumstances we recommend that you touch up the paint with a sample colour pot from Resene.

Painting or Staining of Timber Clad Sheds

The ply cladding used is treated to H3.2 standard, this means that as long as the cladding is above ground then no further treatment is required. However, if you wish to paint or stain, we recommend that you use a house quality product rather than a fence quality as it will look better for longer.

Weathering of Timber Cladding

Timber is a natural product and will weather, this means that you will get some movement and cracks forming. However, if the movement is excessive and doors bind up or large cracks form let us know and send us a photo. If necessary, we will come and fix or replace excessively weathered materials.

Electricity

Many customers want electricity in their shed. If this is simply an extension lead then we are happy to feed this into your shed when we install. Some customers choose to hard wire electricity into their shed, or to continuously run cyclical equipment, in these circumstances it is imperative that the shed is electrically ‘grounded’. As well as being important for safety reasons, it will ensure that any ‘stray current’ is properly dissipated. If not properly dealt with stray current can very quickly cause corrosion of your shed, and for rust to form.
